How to use colour to sell you property

We are often asked, “What colour should we use in our property to attract a buyer?”

here are a few things to consider when selling your property and décor is just one of them, colour is a very important part in selling your property, why is it important? Colour can attract a buyer, but it can also instantly put someone off buying a property,
It takes the average house buyer just 27 minutes to say 'yes' to a property, Zoopla has revealed. But, while the average house hunter makes up their mind in less time than an episode of Coronation Street, almost a quarter knew it was for them in just 10 minutes or less.
Therefore, it is crucial to make sure that your property is presented at its best, by using neutral colours on the walls throughout to create a calm and welcoming space. Try not to follow trends as they come and go, not everyone is on trend so they might not have seen what you have seen on Pinterest, on TV, or what you have read in a magazine, so be very careful when choosing a colour to sell a property. Remember you are decorating to sell, therefore use neutral colours, keep to the white and off-white range of paints there are so many to choose from.
Won’t this make it look cold and sterile?
Not if you add artwork to the walls and colourful soft furnishings to bring in some colour like we have done in the installation below.
This was a full house stage, the snug area had white walls and pale grey wood flooring, we added colour to the space by hanging the parrot picture on the wall, with tall orange lamps in the alcoves on either side, along with a soft wool orange throw and a gorgeous chunky rug to add texture and warmth. As well as adding colour to the room the large parrot picture helps the property to stand out in the estate agents listing, which is good for attracting a potential buyer.(This property sold in a day) |

hite walls are a blank canvas, there are so many different shades of white to choose from, an off white can help a space to look spacious but not too cold and bare, we used a gorgeous Farrow and Ball shaded white on this installation in Newcastle as you can see in the photos of the before and after, changing the colour from a strong red to an off white made a huge difference to how this room feels. (Designer; tip Paint the shelves the same colour as your wall)
Before dark red walls | After Walls painted in Farrow and Ball shaded white | After painting the walls Shaded White, we added colour to the room by using pale blue cushions, floor length velvet curtains and a woolly blue throw on the chaise lounge, with a thick cream faux fur throw on the bed to add texture and warmth |
You can see how the neutral white colour pallet has brightened this room and made it feel light and airy, creating a warm and inviting space to relax in. |
